Developer: Quintet
Platform:
SNES

Description:

Late in the game, simple cube enemies are encountered in Beruga’s Lab as well as in the Lab Tower in Siberia. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos [Computer] – Kodo Beast / Various

with one comment

Media: video game: “Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos”
Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
Platform:
Computer

Description:

The kodo beast unit – somewhat resembling a large rhinoceros - is first usable in the third chapter of the Orc Campaign, but can be accessed at any time with the use of the Warcraft III World Editor. Kodo beasts are able to swallow an enemy unit whole, though cannot devour heroes, air units or high level enemies. Swallowed enemies are removed from the map, and their portrait is displayed in red with their health bar slowly depleting – signifying digestion damage. Once their health bar is depleted, the kodo beast belches and can once again use their devour ability. If slain before digestion is complete, the trapped unit is freed.

Odin Sphere – Belial

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Odin Sphere” by Vanillaware
Platform: Playstation 2

The boss, (Raging Dragon) Belial is a dragon with a very snake-like appearance and is fought a number of times throughout this game, once by each of the different characters. His signature attack is to inhale the character and swallow them for considerable digestion damage before regurgitating them. If he fails to swallow the character, he will simply regurgitate debris. Belial will spit out the character even if they lose all their HP as a result of the attack.

Otherwise he can do so with a simple snap of his jaws without drawing in air sharply.

Each of the five characters of the game encounter and fight against him once, and preceding characters’ story arcs must be finished before beginning with the next. In order of appearance:

  • Gwendolyn (a Valkyrie) fights him at the end of Chapter 1
  • Cornelius (a Pooka – a stylised anthropomorphic rabbit) fights him at the end of his Epilogue (‘Chapter 7′)
  • Mercedes (a Faerie/Fairy) fights him at the end of Chapter 1
  • Oswald (a human) fights him at the end of Chapter 3
  • Velvet (a human) fights him at the end of Chapter 6

The following is particularly spoiler-heavy.

After Cornelius’ fight against Belial, Urzur – the mage who had been manipulating the dragon using magic is devoured ‘off-screen’ when his spell is broken. Before Belial dies, he seeks revenge by advancing toward Urzur, mouth wide open before the screen flashes bright red.

Radical Rex [Genesis, Sega CD, SNES] – Allosaurus / Radical Rex

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Radical Rex”
Developer: Beam Software
Platform: Genesis, Sega CD, SNES

Description:

‘Radical Rex’ can be seen carelessly skateboarding into the mouth of an allosaurus twice in the game. At the beginning of level 3 – known as ‘Inner Works 1′ - Rex is seen skateboarding and attempts to stop once he sees his would-be predator, but gets eaten anyway (his skateboard is spit out). Similarly at the beginning of level 8 – ‘Inner Works 2′ - Rex does an aerial trick with his skateboard and inadvertently lands in the mouth of what appears to be the same dinosaur. Both of these levels are convoluted maze levels with what one would imagine is inside a living creature, including stomach acids. If Rex falls into the acid pits, he will immediately disintegrate and lose a life.

A level select code exists – on the game start screen (where “1 Player” etc. can be selected),  input the following using the second controller:

  • On Genesis and Sega CD: A, C, Down, Right, Up, B.
  • On SNES: Right, A, Down, Right, Y, X.
