Vainglory [Android, Computer, iOS] – Grumpjaw / Various

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Vainglory”
Developer: Super Evil Megacorp
Platform: Android, Computer, iOS

Description:

Grumpjaw is a playable hero, and appears to be a vague quadrupedal monster with pronounced tusks/mandible, and is described as having a large appetite. His third ability, known as ‘Stuffed’ allows him to charge at another hero, toss them up into the air, and catch them in his open mouth, swallowing them whole. The swallowed hero is unable to participate in battle for a number of seconds (can be extended if taking certain passive abilities into battle), while gulping sounds are played, and the words “OM NOM NOM” are displayed over Grumpjaw’s body. The swallowed hero can be voluntarily regurgitated by activating the skill again if desired. If Grumpjaw is killed with a hero inside, they will be freed. If a hero is killed as a result of the charge, Grumpjaw appears to not eat them at all. In the past, Grumpjaw would get a large, distended belly after swallowing a hero, however it seems that this was patched out in later versions.

Grumpjaw has three different skins at the time of writing:

  • (Default) Grumpjaw; the default portrait shows Grumpjaw with an open mouth, and a minion inside, looking out (though minions cannot be eaten in the game itself);
  • Lapdog Grumpjaw, that changes his appearance to a dog with large tusks;
  • Carnivore Grumpjaw, that changes his appearance to an alien with four mouth flaps.

Developer: Game Atelier
Platform: PS4, Switch, XBONE

Description:

Ketz is a miniboss in the Lost Temples area, and appears to be a lion’s head statue on the wall. Its upper and lower jaws will separate to fire beams at Jin, and Jin must use his Frog form to rotate the room in order to enter Ketz’s mouth three times, completing short segments in his Pig, Snake and Frog forms. Ketz’s insides however do not look organic; simply another room, in keeping with it being a (sentient?) statue. Once complete, Jin will be forced out of Ketz.

Media: video game: “Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom”
Developer: Game Atelier
Platform: PS4, Switch, XBONE

Description:

The boss of the Crystal Caves area is the Ancient Frog, which can only be fought with Jin in his Pig and Snake forms. A few times during the fight, the Ancient Frog will grab Jin with its long tongue and swallow him. Inside is a mini-platforming segment in which Jin must use his Snake form to climb the walls of the Ancient Frog’s insides and attack its heart, while out-running the rising levels of stomach acids. Skeletons of humans, fish and some monsters can be seen inside the stomach of the Ancient Frog. Regardless of whether Jin is exposed to the stomach acids, or he successfully beats at the heart, the Ancient Frog will gag and regurgitate Jin up. Each time Jin is swallowed, he appears to be sent lower down in its stomach, evidenced that he has to climb a farther distance to reach the heart.
