Media: video game: “Racing Penguin”
Developer: Top Free Games
Platform: Android, iOS

Description:

In this mobile game, the player controls a penguin to navigate various slopes within different levels to escape a polar bear. If too slow, a still image is seen of the polar bear with a large stomach, and the penguin’s foot sticking out of the polar bear’s mouth, with black feathers in the air. The basic penguin is assumed to be male, as a blatantly female-looking penguin with blonde hair can be purchased in-game for an exorbitant amount of money.

Media: video game: “Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom”
Developer: Game Atelier
Platform: PS4, Switch, XBONE

Description:

The boss of the Crystal Caves area is the Ancient Frog, which can only be fought with Jin in his Pig and Snake forms. A few times during the fight, the Ancient Frog will grab Jin with its long tongue and swallow him. Inside is a mini-platforming segment in which Jin must use his Snake form to climb the walls of the Ancient Frog’s insides and attack its heart, while out-running the rising levels of stomach acids. Skeletons of humans, fish and some monsters can be seen inside the stomach of the Ancient Frog. Regardless of whether Jin is exposed to the stomach acids, or he successfully beats at the heart, the Ancient Frog will gag and regurgitate Jin up. Each time Jin is swallowed, he appears to be sent lower down in its stomach, evidenced that he has to climb a farther distance to reach the heart.

Caveman Ninja [Arcade] – The Legendary Giant Tyrant Triffid / Joe, Mac

with 3 comments

Media: video game: “Caveman Ninja”
Developer: Data East
Platform: Arcade

Description:

The boss of the second stage is known as The Legendary Giant Tyrant Triffid. If you stand in front of it, it has a tendency to grab the cavemen with a vine and shove them in its mouth, chew, lick its lips and spit out the unfortunate caveman’s remains, which of course, means one life immediately lost. If successful, the Triffid will declare in a deep voice that the cavemen taste ‘Delicious!”. It is possible to escape the grip of the Triffid’s vines by mashing buttons, however.

If playing with two players, it is possible to attack the Triffid to cause it to spit the other character out intact, as opposed to their skeletal remains. However this does not save them from losing a life. Read the rest of this entry »

Joe & Mac [NES] – The Legendary Giant Tyrant Triffid / Joe, Mac

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Joe & Mac”
Developer: Elite Systems
Platform: NES

Description:

The boss of the second stage is known as ‘The Legendary Giant Tyrant Triffid’. Much like the arcade version of this game, the Triffid is able to devour the cavemen resulting in an instant life lost. It differs in that it has no vines, so cannot grab the cavemen to do so – instead, walking too close to the Triffid will cause the caveman to be ‘inhaled’ into its mouth, before chewing and spitting up skeletal remains. Radical Rex [Genesis, SCD, SNES] – Allosaurus / Radical Rex

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Radical Rex”
Developer: Beam Software
Platform: Genesis, SCD, SNES

Description:

Radical Rex can be seen carelessly skateboarding into the mouth of an allosaurus twice in the game. At the beginning of level 3 – known as ‘Inner Works 1’ – Rex is seen skateboarding and attempts to stop once he sees his would-be predator, but gets eaten anyway (his skateboard is spit out). Similarly at the beginning of level 8 – ‘Inner Works 2’ – Rex does an aerial trick with his skateboard and inadvertently lands in the mouth of what appears to be the same dinosaur. Both of these levels are convoluted maze levels with what one would imagine is inside a living creature, including stomach acids. If Rex falls into the acid pits, he will immediately disintegrate and lose a life.

A level select code exists – on the game start screen (where “1 Player” etc. can be selected),  input the following using the second controller:

  • On Genesis and Sega CD: A, C, Down, Right, Up, B.
  • On SNES: Right, A, Down, Right, Y, X.
