The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Jabu-Jabu

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time″
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo
Platform:  N64, Gamecube, Wii Virtual Console

In Zora’s Domain, there exists a whale known as Jabu-Jabu that is hailed as the guardian god of the Zora people. Before you can see him, you must present King Zora with the Botted Note found in Lake Hylia, and as the contents of the letter suggests, you will need to enter the body of Jabu-Jabu to rescue someone. When the Bottled Note is shown to King Zora and access to Zora’s Fountain is granted, you will see Jabu-Jabu floating in the water and do mostly nothing.

“According to the ‘Legend of Zora’, the act of offering a fish to Lord Jabu-Jabu will make you happy.”
– One of the Zora in Zora’s Domain

When a fish, either caught or bought, is placed in front of Jabu-Jabu’s nose, he will promptly open his mouth wide, inhaling both it and Link inside. This will happen only the first time you enter. There begins the third dungeon of the game, Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly. The insides are roughly what one would expect to see with biological walls, peristaltic activity, and strangely, doors, holes and monsters.

At any time, you are free to leave the dungeon by approaching Jabu-Jabu’s mouth and out past his teeth. To re-enter, simply walking towards Jabu-Jabu will cause him to open his mouth where you can walk leisurely in.

God of War – Hydra

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “God of War” by SCE Studios Santa Monica
Platform: Playstation 2, Playstation 3

The first boss of the game is the Hydra, and its numerous incarnations. Immediately starting the game, Kratos is in combat in a stormy ship setting. Within minutes of gameplay, the first incarnation of the Hydra reveals itself, smashing through one of the ship’s hallways. It is only capable of biting attacks though not much else.

The Hydra is encountered again after fighting some flying enemies on the deck of the ship. This Hydra is capable of grabbing Kratos, hurling him into the air and catching him within its jaws. If no buttons are pressed, the Hydra bites down with a cloud of red, and spits Kratos out.

The first two Hydra can be seen in the following video at 0:00 and 1:20 respectively.

At the end of the level, three Hydra heads are encountered, who eat a couple of men, including the man holding the key that Kratos needs. So in order to get the key back, Kratos must defeat each of the Hydra heads and venture inside to get it. Once killed, the giant Hydra’s mouth gapes open, and walking in we’re given shots of the Hydra’s fleshy throat and strings of saliva. We also see the man with the key, who is strangely intact and not yet swallowed. Kratos takes the key and instead of saving the man, tosses him down into the monster’s gut.

The full motion videos of the men being eaten by the Hydras can be seen at 5:17 of the following video.

Kratos ventures into the Hydra at 4:17 of the following video.

Extreme Dinosaurs – Haxx

leave a comment »

Media: TV series: “Extreme Dinosaurs” by DIC Entertainment
Season: 1
Episode: 17: “Incredible Shrinking Dinosaurs”

In this episode, the raptors are planning to destroy the world’s forests with the use of some form of herbicide, but the Extreme Dinosaurs have caught wind of this operation and attempt to thwart their plans. During their fight, Haxx, one of the raptors, douses each of the Extreme Dinosaurs in some of the chemicals which in turn is struck by a freak lightning bolt, effectively turning it into shrink gas and miniaturising T-Bone, Spike, Stegz and Bullzeye, unbeknownst to the raptors who simply shrug off their enemies’ mysterious ‘disappearance’. Simplistic, but I’ve seen worse storylines.

Bullzeye, now the size of a fly, tries to mess with the raptors by buzzing around their ears and whispering insults to them, confusing them into fighting with one another. When he uses his signature screech ability near Haxx’s ear, he notices the ‘bug’ and furiously chases after it, eventually catching mini-Bullzeye. He states, “Bugs aren’t usually first choice on the menu, but this one I’m really going to enjoy!”, before opening his mouth, closing his eyes and tossing him in with a loud chomp noise.

Bullzeye echoes, “Hey! Whoa, wait a minute! Let me out of he-e-ere!”. As the rest of his friends seem to hesitate, we get a view of Bullzeye inside Haxx’s mouth, who is pacing around the giant tongue, yelling “You try and swallow me you Pleistocene(?) pimple and I’ll give you one Cretaceous belly-ache!” to which Haxx retaliates by… slurping him. Transition to an outside view again and we see Haxx enjoying himself a bit too much, making slurping gestures with loud rubbery-stretchy sounds while Bullzeye, who is clearly not enjoying it calls out for help, just in time for the ad break.

When the show returns, Bullzeye is seen trying to stabilise himself on the rapidly moving, dripping tongue, again yelling. “Let me out of here, you bad breath factory!”

The rest of the Extreme Dinosaurs finally spring into action despite their size and attack at Haxx’s feet, causing him to yelp in pain, releasing the pterodactyl who again demonstrates he really must have the last word. “Ewrgh! What do use for mouthwash, rotten eggs?”

At some point Haxx must have realised their identity before the other raptors based on his comments that they “smell like little dinosaurs”, and at one point addressing them as “Jurassic jerks”. When he tries to pursue them a second time, Bullzeye confronts him again, this time willingly flying into his nose, causing him to sneeze and expel him onto his comrade Spitter.

Just like before, Haxx captures him again, saying “Now I’m gonna eat him!” but confusingly releases his grip and allows him to escape. Fed up with his shenanigans, Badrap, the head raptor orders Spitter to use the freeze ray on Haxx, effectively incapacitating him for the rest of the episode. When the Extreme Dinosaurs disable the defoliant release mechanism, they return to normal size and as usual defeat the raptors, and return home.

Having dinner outdoors, a small insect buzzes around Bullzeye who wants to swat it, but decides against it. Cue the over-used group laugh to end the episode.

Angry Beavers – Alligator / Daggett, Norbert

leave a comment »

Media: TV series: “Angry Beavers”
Season: 3
Episode: 33A: “Tough Love”

Description:

In this episode of Angry Beavers, Norbert and Daggett are leaving to see a wrestling match starring Dag’s favourite luchador, El Grapadura, when Bing, one of the forest lizards drops by the beavers’ home to announce that he has been dumped by his girlfriend Wanda. Offering his sympathies owing to his own experience of heartbreak, Norb comforts Bing and coerces Dag to find the female lizard.

As Dag wanders around the roads, he sees a pair of eyes sticking out of the water and mistakes what turns out to be an alligator as Wanda. The alligator approaches Dag after his speech, and we see Dag’s perspective as a pair of jaws advance as the screen turns to black.

Dag’s second attempt finds a tiny frog, who at first finds his attempts at serenading irresistable. Realising it was not the alligator, he throws the frog back into the water. He looks around and sees another pair of eyes which appear to belong to the same frog, after which the scene changes to the beavers’ home as we hear Dag’s distant screams accompanied by snarling and loud chomping sounds.

The third attempt has Daggett trying to make the alligator jealous with a hilarious picture of Bing taped onto a picture of another alligator. He becomes spooked at a surfacing log and retreats into a tree where the alligator is waiting. As he crawls backwards into the alligator’s mouth, he touches a puddle of saliva and comments “Ooh, this tree is gooey.” We hear the sound of a rusty gate closing and a chomp as the screen fades to black once again.

In his next attempt we see Daggett covered in bite marks, carrying a heart shaped box of chocolates, bringing them to a sleeping alligator. He pries its jaws open with a jack and deposits the box in some artificial looking innards. (We also hear the comments of an unknown male voice about the wrestling match from inside the alligator as he ventures inside.) As he is ready to leave, Dag tries to remove the jack while still in between the jaws. The screen pans away and again we hear a loud chomp with Dag’s screams.

Cut to the wrestling match, we see El Grapadura who seems to be winning his match. A “partially swallowed beaver”, dripping with drool gains the wrestler’s attention, pleading for his help.

We then see El Grapadura wrestling the alligator into the beavers’ home, unleashing it onto Norbert and Bing. Daggett is sitting outside with sounds of struggle coming from within when the real Wanda reveals herself. Realising he had the wrong reptile, Daggett simply throws Wanda inside the home with the others, where we momentarily see Norbert struggling within the alligator’s jaws. “Work it out!” yells Dag.
