Suikoden II [PS1] – Sauroid / Various

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Suikoden II″
Developer: Konami
Platform: PS1

Description:

Outside the Greenhill area, you can encounter enemies known as Sauroid(s), which appear to be green amphibians somewhere between a tadpole and a frog. They are capable of targeting the characters in your front row with either a tongue strike, or by using their long tongues to ensnare characters, swallowing them and jumping up and down to cause damage and then spitting them back out. These enemies seem to be available any time after the events of Two River up until the liberation of Greenhill (very late in the game) when different enemies replace them.

A more powerful version known as Fisheye(s) can be encountered in the area outside of Muse and seem to become available to fight after liberation of Rockaxe (also very late in the game). Apart from their colouring and strength, they are otherwise identical to the Sauroids.

Because either Sauroids or Fisheyes seem to be available throughout the entire game, just about all recruitable characters can fall prey to to them, and may include humans, an elf, kobolds (portrayed as dog-people), squirrels, a wolf, a unicorn, a gryphon, wingers (bird or bat-people), a robot, a vampire, a werewolf and octopuses. Work Time Fun [PSP] – Beast / Beast Keeper

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Work Time Fun”
Developer: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Platform: PSP

Description:

One of the jobs is known as Run Like Heck, and can be acquired through the silver ($5.00) capsule machine. In this particular job, you are tasked to feed a giant monster a hunk of meat by dropping it near its sleeping place and running away. Delivering the food closer to the beast earns you a higher pay, and failure to escape means being paid $0.00, naturally.  The monster itself is ambiguous in form, is large and hairy with short stumpy legs, and whimpers like a dog if you escape. If it reaches you, it can devour you in two slightly different ways – simply pick you up in its jaws, chew and swallow, or it can flick you up in the air with a long wet tongue and a loud squishy noise before doing the same.

In this game, you may be given titles that describe your in-game achievements. If eaten by the beast 10 times, you will be bestowed the title Mineral-Rich Beast Keeper. Read the rest of this entry »

Suikoden II [PS1] – Bonaparte / Various

Media: video game: “Suikoden II”
Developer: Konami
Platform: PS1

Description:

Early in the game, after you are granted permission to recruit party members, there is a woman garbed in blue named Millie in Ryube village. She is looking for her lost pet named Bonaparte and will join you if you agree to help her. Upon taking the right path of the forest north of Ryube, you will enounter Bonaparte, a small six-eyed creature apparently dubbed a groundhog (though does not resemble its real-world counterpart).

When Millie approaches Bonaparte, it will engage in battle. Bonaparte is an easy enemy with only one attack: it dives into the ground, re-emerges in a larger form and inhales one of your party members, chewing them a few times before spitting them out. It is possible to delay recruiting Millie indefinitely it seems, should one desire a particular character to be on the receiving end of such an attack.

Once Bonaparte is defeated, Millie is reunited with her hungry pet and regains her Groundhog Rune, an ability in which Bonaparte will use its vacuum ability to chomp on would-be enemies for double damage, though only once per battle.

Once the character Richmond is recruited, he can investigate the other party members. If Millie is investigated repeatedly, he returns with this comment:

Richmond:
“Y…you won’t believe this…  I saw Millie actually go ‘inside’ Bonaparte and take a nap in there!”

Suikoden II [PS1] – Creeper / Various

Media: video game: “Suikoden II”
Developer: Konami
Platform: PS1

Description:

A few hours into the game in the Sindar Ruins, you can encounter the pitcher plant-like monsters known as Creeper which have the ability to inhale party members and squeeze them before spitting them out. It is difficult to say who can be plant-food in this version, as you are assigned a random selection of your recruited party members for this part of the game, which may include humans, kobolds (portrayed as dog-men), a squirrel or a wolf. Once the boss of the Sindar Ruins is defeated, it seems that you can no longer encounter them.

Later in the game, while escaping from Greenhill the first time, you can fight a variation of the Creeper enemies, known as Melonzoo. Apart from being stronger and having the watermelon-like stripes to its appearance, it is otherwise identical with the same inhale attack. The Melonzoo can only be fought at this time. Possible characters are again limited because there is an age restriction for party members at this point in the game, but may include humans, kobolds (dog-men), a squirrel or a wolf.
