Neopets [Web] – Tiger, Frog / Kacheek, Quiggle

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Neopets”
Developer: The Neopets Team
Platform: Web

Description:

The very old Flash-based choose-your-adventure story game, ‘The Haunted House” can be found in the Haunted Woods hub in Neopia. It features a Kacheek and Quiggle exploring a haunted house after their car breaks down, and choosing various paths can result in the deaths of the main characters, with somewhat crude animations available, if the skull in the top right corner is clicked. If the player chooses to go to the back yard, they are presented with two choices to navigate to, both of which results in a dead end.

The abandoned zoo has two giant tigers that “have not been fed since 1850.” The accompanying animation shows a close-up of the main characters, who are grabbed by a giant paw that pulls them to be eaten off screen. A gulp can be heard soon after.

The swampy, dirty fountain houses a giant frog that leaps out of the water, uses its large tongue to grab the main characters and swallows them before returning into the fountain water once again.

Caveman Ugh-lympics [C64] – Sabre-tooth Tiger / Caveman

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Caveman Ugh-lympics”
Developer: Dynamix
Platform: C64

Description:

On the game cover we can see a sabre-tooth tiger with one of the cavemen’s feet sticking out of his mouth. This is a reference to one of the games known as Saber Race.

This is a simple race, but rather than finding out who can cross the finish line, the emphasis seems to be to see who can avoid not being the sabre-tooth tiger’s meal. Although both participants can make it to the tree and climb it to avoid being eaten, if the sabre-tooth catches up to either caveman, they will enter a cartoony ‘fight cloud’ and are told that caveman was eaten, though we don’t really see it.
