Media: video game: “Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare”
Developer: Electronic Arts
Platform:
PS4, XBONE

Description:

The Chomper is able to swallow a zombie whole, either non-player or player, by approaching from behind, or burrowing underneath. This results in an instant vanquish, but leaves the Chomper vulnerable to attack, as it spends the next few seconds chewing and digesting its previous meal, before it is able to chomp another zombie. It will often burp to signify completion of digestion. Zombie parts are often seen sticking out of the Chomper’s mouth during this process. Read the rest of this entry »

Extreme Dinosaurs; 1×21 ‘The Bad Seed’ – Flytraps / Dinosaurs

leave a comment »

Media: animated series: “Extreme Dinosaurs”
Episode: 1×21: “The Bad Seed”

The raptors’ plan to raise Earth’s temperature for this episode involves rapidly growing plants that produce potent greenhouse gases. Seeking plant samples, they are seen to collect a species of flytrap (which we see eating a fly), and when Haxx comments on its small size, Spittor hints at his plans to beef them up.

Using their special lights to speed their growth, the raptors unleash the plants – which are now colossal size – onto New York city. One of the flytraps is seen to engulf a bus (though the people inside escape before becoming plant food) and spits it out shortly afterwards.

Bullzeye, believing himself to be safe in the air lets his guard down and becomes engulfed for a few minutes while the other dinosaurs themselves struggle with growing vines. They advise him to try freezing the plant from the inside, which causes it to spit him out.

Later on, T-Bone, Spike and Stegz willingly allow some of the flytraps to engulf them as part of a plan to transport themselves to the raptors’ base of operation. They employ the same strategy and freeze the plants from the inside, causing to spit them out. Oddly, both T-Bone and Spike are ejected clean and dry, while Stegz is the only one smeared with purple saliva. “Messy, but otherwise a superb form of transportation”, he says.

As the Extreme Dinosaurs fight the raptors, they headbutt a cyber-raptor into the maw of one of the flytraps, and after knocking Haxx and Spittor off of the building, Badrap also gets a taste of being plant-food himself. Stegz reverses the grow lights and the plants recede – including three flytraps that spit out the raptors (though we didn’t see Haxx and Spittor being engulfed on-screen). This can often catch players by surprise. Should Yoshi mistakenly come too close, the Piranha Plant will encase Yoshi (letting Mario out in a bubble) and contract and expand its body as if to suggest chewing. Final Fantasy VII [PS1] – Carnivorous Plants / Cloud

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Final Fantasy VII″
Developer: Squaresoft
Platform: PS1

Description:

Ancient Forest is an optional area accessed late in Disc 2 after defeating ‘Ultimate Weapon’ (or perhaps earlier if one breeds a mountain-worthy Chocobo – green, black or gold). It is a series of mini-puzzles involving the use of insects, frogs, pitcher plants and other man-eating plants.

These carnivorous plants either block the way or hold an item and if Cloud and company wanders too close to the centre, it will snap shut, reducing the party’s HP a significant amount – despite it not being a battle screen – before spitting them out. Wandering into a carnivorous plant will never reduce a party member’s HP to 0. In fact, if a character’s HP is already 0, walking into one will raise it to 1HP.

These plants are generally not interested in either insects or frogs, but if Cloud grabs an insect hive and tosses it in, the plant will snap shut, allowing him to pass or access treasures. Read the rest of this entry »

Yoshi’s Story [N64, Wii] – Piranha Plants / Yoshi

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Yoshi’s Story″
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: N64, Wii

The Yoshis knew the woods,
but they have never seen a
place like the jungle.

For the first time, the
Yoshis saw Piranha Plants,
the kings of the jungle.

One plant could swallow
the Yoshis whole, so they
left the jungle in a hurry.

The page turned, and
the Yoshis grew happier.

Or so the story goes. Page 4, stage 3 is known as Piranha Grove. The place is crawling with Piranha Plants, including two species not previously seen in other games. The common types seen in other Mario games are still present, but as huge towering plants that are unable to eat Yoshi.

The first enemy to be seen in the level is the Piranha Pest. It is an airborne Piranha Plant owing to its strange propeller and will fly around slowly. If it sees Yoshi in its sights, it will flick out a very Yoshi-esque tongue, pulling him into its body with a slurp. After a few seconds, Yoshi is spit up, but temporarily miniaturised. This is a rather powerful attack, removing 3 petals from the Happiness Meter, however the slurp attack is unable to kill Yoshi.

In the third area of the same stage, there are grounded Piranha Plants on the floor known as Piranha Sprouts. Except for the lack of a tongue, these enemies are essentially the same as the Pests, including the shrinking ability and inability to directly kill a Yoshi.
