Media: video game: “Super Mario World”
Developer: Nintendo
Platform:
SNES

Description:

Yoshi – who can be first met in the stage Yoshi’s Island 2, is able to grab certain enemies with his long tongue to swallow enemies (gaining one coin). The Koopa Troopers are the main exception to this because of their shells. Yoshi can spit them back out to use as a projectile weapon (red and yellow Koopas shoot bolts of fire instead) or if they are held for 30 in-game seconds, Yoshi will make efforts to swallow and will eventually do so.

Spyro the Dragon 2 – Lava Lizard

Media: video game: “Spyro 2” by Insonmiac Games
Platform:  Playstation, Playstation Network

In Skelos Badlands, the eleventh listed stage of the game, one of the cavemen will ask you to save their chums from being eaten by Lava Lizards. If a single one gets eaten, you’re treated to a scene where one of the lizards tosses a caveman into the air, swallowing him and then spitting up a bone they tie their hair with.

At the end of the game, once all 16 of the skill points have been achieved, you are treated to an ‘epilogue’ – still images that feature many of the different characters of the game and what supposedly happens to them after the ending. One of them features Moneybags in the jaws of a Lava Lizard.

Yoshi’s Story – Yoshi

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Yoshi’s Story″ by Nintendo
Platform: Nintendo 64, Wii Virtual Console

Yoshi, just like his appearances in other Nintendo games is known to have a big appetite and a long tongue to help him nab food. In the insanely cute Yoshi’s Story, the newborn Yoshis are trying to retrieve the stolen Happy Tree, but must keep joyful in order to do so. So what can they do to keep themselves happy? They eat. Well, fruit mostly, but other things as well. Unlike in predecessor, Yoshi’s Island, Yoshi here doesn’t have the option of holding things in his mouth and spitting them out. Everything seems to be swallowed immediately to be converted to an egg.

Whenever Yoshi eats something, a speech bubble with hearts will appear, depending on how happy it makes them. Each Yoshi seems to like foods and enemies (particularly Shy Guys) of their own colour and if you remain still after eating something particularly tasty, Yoshi will smile happily. Conversely, if he eats something he hates, he will grimace and gag.

Interestingly, if Yoshi eat’s a Heart Fruit he will reach a ‘super happy’ mode which makes his already ridiculously tongue even longer.

If you search any video on Youtube you can see movies of Yoshi eating enemies, but just to save you to trouble of a few clicks, here’s a video showing it at 3:51, as well as the cute style of the game.

Chrono Trigger – Tyrano

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Chrono Trigger” by Square
Platform: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Playstation, Nintendo DS.

Chrono Trigger I’m sure is known to most gamers for being a classic game done incredibly well, with an interesting storyline, memorable music and gorgeous graphics. The most notable feature of the game is the time-travelling aspect, that changes the setting from prehistoria to distant future, where one can witness and effects of actions in the past on the future. There are seven playable characters that include five human characters, one anthro frog and one robot.

Around halfway into the game, when forced to travel to 65,000,000 B.C. for the second time, one will eventually fight the boss ‘Black Tyrano’ along with the leader of the Reptites, Azala. One of the Tyrano’s attacks is to flick an unfortunately poorly animated tongue (in actuality, a series of red circles) to one of your party members, pulling them into its mouth. The Tyrano chews and then spits the character out, draining them of a large amount of HP.

This can be seen at 2:18 of the following video.

Similarly, near the end of the game, during the quest to find the Rainbow Shell, you will fight another version of the same boss, known as the ‘Rust Tyrano’, with an identical tongue attack.

This can be seen at 4:26 of the following video.
