Media: video game: “Secret of Mana”
Developer: Square Enix
Platform:
Computer, PS4, Vita

Description:

Fairly early in the game, after fighting the Spikey Tiger boss, Luka will ask you to investigate the waterfalls immediately east of the Water Palace. Inside, there will be a small pink egg patterned with a love heart that births a pink tadpole dubbed Tonpole in the English version. It is incapable of any special attacks and is only able to cause damage by jumping around.

Once damaged a sufficient amount, the music will change to boss battle music and the Tonpole will mature into a Biting Lizard, a blue lizard capable of an unnamed tongue attack that will grab a party member from mid-range and swallow them. Unlike the SNES version of the game, they appear to willingly spit out the party members. Read the rest of this entry »

After completing Chapter 8 of the main story, certain characters are able to perform combination attacks provided the necessary characters are within range. Usalia is able to initiate a combo with Zeroken called Extreme Kick, in which Zeroken appears to miss the intended target of a flying kick, instead flying into Usalia’s yellow Prinny’s mouth. Usalia then tries to free Zeroken by jumping on the Prinny’s head, eventually resorting to bonking it over the head with her hammer, causing him to fly out and deliver his kicking attack. Secret of Mana [SNES, Wii] – Great Viper / Player

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Secret of Mana”
Developer: Squaresoft
Platform: SNES

Description:

The Great Viper boss is fought soon after reaching Matango in the Upper Land. It is able to swallow a nearby party member to become pygmized, though we only see the snake momentarily opening its mouth, a party member disappearing, and a bulge in its body gradually reaching its tail where they are ‘expelled’.

Near the end of the game in Pure Land, you can fight a stronger version of the same boss known as the Dragon Worm, though its swallow attack tends to cause your party members to turn into moogles rather than become pygmized. Read the rest of this entry »

Suikoden II [PS1] – Sauroid / Various

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Suikoden II″
Developer: Konami
Platform: PS1

Description:

Outside the Greenhill area, you can encounter enemies known as Sauroid(s), which appear to be green amphibians somewhere between a tadpole and a frog. They are capable of targeting the characters in your front row with either a tongue strike, or by using their long tongues to ensnare characters, swallowing them and jumping up and down to cause damage and then spitting them back out. These enemies seem to be available any time after the events of Two River up until the liberation of Greenhill (very late in the game) when different enemies replace them.

A more powerful version known as Fisheye(s) can be encountered in the area outside of Muse and seem to become available to fight after liberation of Rockaxe (also very late in the game). Apart from their colouring and strength, they are otherwise identical to the Sauroids.

Because either Sauroids or Fisheyes seem to be available throughout the entire game, just about all recruitable characters can fall prey to to them, and may include humans, an elf, kobolds (portrayed as dog-people), squirrels, a wolf, a unicorn, a gryphon, wingers (bird or bat-people), a robot, a vampire, a werewolf and octopuses. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time [N64] – Like-Like / Link

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time″
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: N64

Description:

At several points in the game you will encounter Like-Likes, strange, stout, worm-like, slug-like enemies that are notorious for eating your equipment. They are first encountered in the Fire Temple  as an adult and can be found in every major dungeon after it including the Gerudo Training Grounds, as well as at the Bottom of the Well as a child (after learning the Song of Storms).

If you get near it, the Like-Like will slowly approach you and stretch its mouth toward you. Regardless of whether it does this or not, getting too close will cause it to grab you and suck you in, squishing you about for a while before spitting you out. Depending on what equipment you were wearing at the time, you may find it missing, such as the Goron Tunic, Zora Tunic, Hylian Shield and perhaps the Deku Shield. Read the rest of this entry »

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time [N64] – Jabu-Jabu / Link

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time″
Developer: Nintendo
Platform: N64

Description:

In Zora’s Domain, there exists a whale known as Jabu-Jabu that is hailed as the guardian god of the Zora people. Before you can see him, you must present King Zora with the Botted Note found in Lake Hylia, and as the contents of the letter suggests, you will need to enter the body of Jabu-Jabu to rescue someone. When the Bottled Note is shown to King Zora and access to Zora’s Fountain is granted, you will see Jabu-Jabu floating in the water and do mostly nothing.

“According to the ‘Legend of Zora’, the act of offering a fish to Lord Jabu-Jabu will make you happy.”
– One of the Zora in Zora’s Domain

When a fish, either caught or bought, is placed in front of Jabu-Jabu’s nose, he will promptly open his mouth wide, inhaling both it and Link inside. This will happen only the first time you enter. There begins the third dungeon of the game, Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly. The insides are roughly what one would expect to see with biological walls, peristaltic activity, and strangely, doors, holes and monsters.

At any time, you are free to leave the dungeon by approaching Jabu-Jabu’s mouth and out past his teeth. To re-enter, simply walking towards Jabu-Jabu will cause him to open his mouth where you can walk leisurely in. Read the rest of this entry »
