Gooooooo [iOS] – Monster Fish / Player

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Gooooooo”
Developer: phyllis_thm
Platform: iOS

Description:

Gooooooo is a simple game where one controls a very Bomberman-esque robot-like character to avoid being swallowed by the monster fish. To swim, the screen must be swiped left and right. Each stage gets progressively harder and harder, and if the fish catches up, it will gulp the character whole with a satisfied look on its face. This happens in a split second so is often difficult to see. Read the rest of this entry »

Chrono Trigger [DS, iOS, PS1, SNES] – Tyrano / Player

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Chrono Trigger”
Developer: Squaresoft
Platform: DS, iOS, PS1, SNES.

Description:

Around halfway into the game, when forced to travel to 65,000,000 B.C. for the second time, one will eventually fight the boss ‘Black Tyrano’ along with the leader of the Reptites, Azala. One of the Tyrano’s attacks is to flick an unfortunately poorly animated tongue (in actuality, a series of red circles) to one of your party members, pulling them into its mouth. The Tyrano chews and then spits the character out, draining them of a large amount of HP.

Similarly, near the end of the game, during the quest to find the Rainbow Shell, you will fight another version of the same boss, known as the Rust Tyrano, with an identical tongue attack. Read the rest of this entry »

Hungry Shark [iOS] – Shark / Various

leave a comment »

Media: video game: “Hungry Shark”
Developer: Future Games of London
Platform: iOS

Description:

As one might naturally infer, in Hungry Shark you control a shark and guide it to snack on fish, sea birds, humans, penguins and jellyfish often displaying a tongue-in-cheek message (such as ‘Aqualunch’ after one eats a scuba diver). As a result of the feeding, the shark grows in size to notable proportions though it does not need to be bigger than the prey to devour it, unlike in most games of a similar nature. Shark Mouth: Dentist Bite [Android, iOS] – Shark Maw / Perspective

with 2 comments

Media: video game: “Shark Mouth: Dentist Bite”
Developer: Sensky Ltd.
Platform: Android, iOS

Description:

‘Shark Mouth: Dentist Bite’ is of the classic straw-drawing variety of multiplayer game where each player in turn touches and removes a shark’s tooth. One tooth is the ‘sore tooth’ and the rest are ‘safe’. The unfortunate one to select the ‘sore tooth’ is crowned the loser and the shark simply grins mischievously – without a chomping animation – accompanied by somewhat creepy giggle and an emotive face in the corner to suggest how that player should feel. Kingdom of Gnester [iOS] – Giant Plant / Gnester

with 2 comments

Media: video game: “Kingdom of Gnester”
Developer: Another Castle Studios inc.
Platform:
iOS

Description:

‘Kingdom of Gnester’ is a cross between a puzzle game and a side-scrolling platform game where the player us required to match tiles – much in the style of ‘Bejeweled’ and other ‘match three’ games – to gain magic power which, when activated, allows Gnester to use various abilities.

The scene in question occurs in stage 17 – the second level of the woods. At the very beginning, Gnester is faced with a giant flytrap-like plant. To defeat the giant plant, the player must use either the shield or shot magic. If not, the plant will grab Gnester with its jaws and quickly drain his life. In order to escape, the player must make use of the ‘accelerometer’ and shake the iDevice, in which case it will spit him out.

In some video games there may be a special animation when a character loses a life from being devoured. Unfortunately this isn’t one of them. Whenever Gnester’s health is reduced to zero, the ‘capacube’ – the relic we’re told is responsible for the sorcery – breaks, with a message informing us of the fact. Read the rest of this entry »
