Sam & Max Hit the Road [PC] – Dragon / Sam

Media: video game: “Sam & Max Hit the Road”
Developer: LucasArts
Platform:
Computer

Description:

In the Bumpusville section of the game, there is a virtual reality headset in a room in Conroy Bumpus’ mansion. Once Lee-Harvey is distracted, Sam can use the VR headset in which he controls his blocky, polygonal self to fight a blocky, polygonal dragon using a sword. If the sword is not used against the dragon in time, it will snatch Sam in its mouth and swallow, with its neck polygons bulging. This does not cause a game over, but forces the player to re-do this section, as Lee-Harvey returns and forces Sam and Max to leave.

If this is repeated and failed a second time, Sam will ask Max if he’s “ever seen the inside of a dragon’s large intestine.”

Platform:

Note: This game was previously known as Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies, but was renamed in 2019. This game requires an internet connection to play.

Throughout the fight, if the player is standing on the overhead platforms, Gluttony will occasionally inhale the player and swallow them. Swallowed players are taken to a separate area inside his belly and can navigate the small place, though movement is hampered by digestion damage, knocking them around. In order to escape, the player must plant three C4 explosives in his belly. Player characters who lose all health while inside the stomach collapse there, and are not spit out.

When the player character is at ground level relative to Gluttony, he may occasionally run up to the player to swallow them instead of inhaling them.

No special animation plays when seeing other players swallowed by Gluttony.

Dragon Slayer [And, iOS] – Dragon / Slayer

Media: video game: “Dragon Slayer”
Developer: Glu Games
Platform:
Android, Apple iOS

Note: This game has been delisted at the time of writing.

Description:

The boss of the Mission 1 tutorial is a wingless dragon that vaguely resembles a real-life bearded dragon or perhaps an ankylosaur. It introduces the player to Mighty Attacks that cannot be dodged, which in this case, is a flame breath in the first instance. Once reduced to 50% HP, the dragon will then interrupt the fight with a brief stagger cutscene, and proceed to use its second Mighty Attack, which flicks out its tongue to wrap around the Slayer, pull him into its mouth, chew and then spit him out. If the Slayer’s HP is depleted by the attack, he will not be pulled into the mouth at all; simply knocked away. It is also capable of using its long tongue to strike at the Slayer throughout the fight, but this only deals contact damage and will not grab the Slayer. (This same dragon reappears as the third dragon of Ordeal 2 though with a modified moveset, and once again uses the same Mighty Attack after its stagger phase below 50% HP.)

There are other elemental variants of this same wingless chubby dragon that will try to grab the Slayer with its tongue:

  • The boss of Mission 6 is ice-elemental. It uses the Mighty Attack after its 20% HP stagger animation. (Also reappears as Ordeal 3 Dragon #3, Mighty Attack after its 50% HP stagger animation.)
  • The boss of Mission 8 is also ice-elemental but uses a slightly different design. It uses the Mighty Attack after its second stagger animation at 33% HP.
  • The boss of Mission 10 is fire-elemental. It uses the Mighty Attack after its 50% HP stagger animation.

Note however, the smaller versions of these wingless portly-looking dragons will not pull the Slayer into its mouth, since they do not use Mighty Attacks, though will strike using their tongues. Certain other boss dragons (Bosses of Mission 4, 6, 12, Ordeal 4, third dragon of Ordeal 6 and second dragon of Ordeal 7) despite being big enough, seemingly will not grab the Slayer with their tongue, as it seems their movesets have changed so that they do not perform this Mighty Attack.

God of War [PC, PS4] – Hraezlyr / Kratos

Media: video game: “God of War”
Developer: Santa Monica Studio
Platform: Computer, PlayStation 4

Description:

Hraezlyr (or more accurately, Hræzlyr) is a large dragon that is first encountered in the former giants’ residence in the mountain. After he is damaged a small amount, he retreats to the mountain’s exterior.

Kratos and Atreus later find the dwarf Sindri being attacked by Hræzlyr and intervene. Hræzlyr attempts to inhale the two of them, but Kratos pushes Atreus to safety and jumps into Hræzlyr’s mouth, where the player can input to make Kratos strike at the dragon from inside. Even if no inputs are made, Kratos will eventually slash at his tongue once, then jump out of the mouth where the boss fight will continue.

During the fight, Hræzlyr will use an inhale ability on Kratos again, but this only serves to bring him closer for other attacks, and will not take him into his mouth again.

N-INNOCENCE- [And, iOS] – Drage / Avatars

Media: video game: “N-INNOCENCE-” (エヌ・イノセンス)
Developer: ASOBIMO
Platform: Android, Apple iOS

Note: This game is region-locked to Japan.

Description:

The boss of main story 第1章-23節戦闘② (Chapter 1, Battle 23-2) is ドラーウェ (Doraawe; probably from the Danish word drage, for dragon), and appears to be an armored dragon. Once its HP has been depleted to around half-way, its upward-swipe attack will cause the controlled Avatar to fly into the air. Should this happen, the Drage will snatch them in its mouth mid-air and swallow them, with an impressive bulge going down its long neck.

If the player has only brought a single Avatar into the fight and they are swallowed, Drage will immediately regurgitate them up again causing heavy damage.

If the player brought more than one Avatar into the fight, Drage will not regurgitate the swallowed Avatar, and can keep them in its stomach indefinitely. The next Avatar is switched in to continue the fight, but the swallowed Avatar can be rescued by putting Drage in the Burst state (BP gauge full, then combo finisher performed on them), after which the swallowed Avatar simply falls out of them, without any special animation.

If the initial ‘bite’ part of the swallow attack kills an Avatar, they will not be swallowed; only knocked away.

The following level is known as My Heartburn’s for You, and begins with the player character being chased by dragonfly enemies. At the end of this section, the player character slides into El Stomacho’s open mouth and is swallowed. The second part of the level tasks the player character to navigate El Stomacho’s innards, and make their way to his stomach. There are pools of acid that deal digestion damage. Once in the stomach proper, the player character must avoid flames and attack weak spots in the stomach wall, to cause El Stomacho to regurgitate them back up, after which a final running portion ends the level.
