Super Mario RPG [NS] – Belome / Party Members

Media: video game: “Super Mario RPG”
Developer: ArtePiazza
Platform: Nintendo Switch

Description:

Early in the game, Mario and Mallow must travel through the Kero Sewers, and will encounter the boss known as Belome at the end. Belome appears to be a large four-eyed dog-like monster with a long tongue. Belome’s attacks include a licking attack and status-inflicting magic. He is also scripted to specifically target Mallow to flick him into the air and swallow him whole. Mallow can be freed if Mario hits Belome a number of times, and conversely, Mallow can remain inside Belome indefinitely if Mario does not attack. If Mario’s HP is reduced to zero while Mallow is still inside Belome’s stomach, this results in a game over, or if Mario is already knocked out beforehand, Belome swallowing Mallow will also result in an instant game over.

Later in the game, the party will face Belome once more, in Belome’s Temple at Land’s End. In this second encounter, Belome can target any party member to eat (Mario, Mallow, Geno, Peach or Bowser), but will spit them back out immediately after commenting on their taste, using this taste to create an enemy clone of the eaten character. Each character supposedly has a different flavor, and Belome will comment as such:

  • “Ack! Sour!” (Mario)
  • “YES! This is yummy!” (Mallow)
  • “Bitter, but not bad…” (Geno)
  • “Mmm, tastes peachy…” (Peach)
  • “Yuck! How repulsive!” (Bowser)

In the Nintendo Switch remake of the game, Belome can be fought a third time in Belome’s Temple after defeating the final boss of the game. He attacks the party, seemingly irritable, complaining of a sore, scratchy throat, and although there are slight differences in the fight, such as increased difficulty and clones granting him impenetrable defence, the fight is very similar to the second fight. When Belome swallows a character in this fight, he no longer comments on their taste. Upon defeating him, he spits out Mallow’s strongest weapon, which was seemingly the cause of his sore throat.

Rayman Legends [NS, Stad, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, XB360, XBO] – Moskito, Globox / Enemies

Media: video game: “Rayman Legends”
Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier
Platform: Computer, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Description:

The Hi-Ho Moskito! level in the Jibberish Jungle painting is one of the Back to Origins series of levels, which are unlocked through Lucky Tickets in-game.

In the beginning of the level, a Moskito will join the player character and act as a mount. Aside from shooting bullets, it is able to inhale enemies into its proboscis, potentially holding them inside indefinitely, and shoot them back out as stronger projectiles.

If playing as Globox, a smaller Moskito joins him and carries him instead, effectively making him the mount. In an identical way, Globox can suck enemies into his mouth and spit them back out.

Enemies in the level that can be sucked up include small flies, big flies, human hunters and the goblin-like Lividstones. The Moskito mounts also appear in various other Back to Origins levels, such as the Shooting Me Softly level in the Desert of Dijiridoos painting, where most of the enemies are birds; Aim for the Eel! level in Gourmand Land, where most of the enemies are lizards; and in the Fire When Wetty level in Sea of Serendipity, where most of the enemies are fish.
