Description:
The kodo beast unit – somewhat resembling a large rhinoceros – is first usable in the third chapter of the Orc Campaign, but can be accessed at any time with the use of the Warcraft III World Editor. Kodo beasts have the ability Devour, allowing them to swallow an enemy unit whole (though cannot Devour heroes, air units, high level enemies, or other units that also have the Devour ability). Swallowed enemies are removed from the map, with a loud ‘splat’ sound and a splash of purple saliva, and their portrait is displayed in red in the kodo beast’s status bar, with their health bar slowly depleting – signifying digestion damage. Once their health bar is depleted, the kodo beast belches, with bones and other remains being expelled, and can once again use their devour ability. If slain before digestion is complete, the swallowed unit is freed.
There are other neutral units that the player would not normally be able to command (without use of the World Editor) that are related to the kodo beast and are based on the same model:
- Salamander Lord, resembling a large red kodo, who burps flame after completely digesting a unit.
- Storm Wyrm, resembling a large green kodo, who burps lightning after completely digesting a unit.
Please note though, at the time of writing, it appears the swallowing animation and the burping animation have been mistakenly switched for the Salamander Lord and the Storm Wyrm, in the Reforged/Classic version. It is unclear if or when this will be fixed. In the original 1.00 version, a different animation error is present, in which these units will correctly chomp other units, but instead of displaying the burp animation, will display the swallowing animation again.
